JOURNALISM.

During my time in education at BOA Stage and Screen Production Academy, I realised that journalism was the route for me. I want to enable the skills from journalism into my portfolio so that i can begin to start presenting and reporting full-time.

The Jump into Journalism.

After hearing from many different individuals and industry professionals, I knew that journalism was the future for me.

I just had to begin to prepare myself.

My Journalistic Work

So, what have i done to prepare myself? Find out below!

BBC Young Reporter Festival

In Summer of 2023, I was selected to help out the media team at the festival! This was an amazing experience to see what happens behind the scenes at events like this, but also gain some amazing interviewing skills from our team leader! I also managed to learn a lot about reporting in general, from professionals and contacts that were present at the event. From my work that summer, I managed to secure myself a paid job with the BBC Academy team.

Young Reporter Scheme

After listening to reporters and presenters at the festival in Summer, I realised that to get into presenting, I needed to begin with written articles, and something that was coming up was the Young Reporter Scheme. During this scheme, I spent my time writing and publishing multiple articles onto the website of a local tabloid newspaper, with advice from a BBC journalist. This has really helped me grow my portfolio and kickstart my experience in writing.

Other Work

From the contacts that I have made from industry events and my course so far, I have tried my best to gain time shadowing industry professionals during work. The first person who i shadowed was Amber Sandhu, a reporter and presenter for BBC Asian Network, and other major broadcast companies. This was a surreal experience to ultimately learn about how a radio show is recorded live, how to kickstart careers into the industry and get a job in radio.
